Eircom to end Irish football sponsorship

Irish telecommunications group, Eircom, will end their sponsorship of the Irish domestic football league at the end of the current season, according to RTÉ Sport.

Eircom began their relationship with Irish football in 2000 sponsoring the national side before extending their commitment by becoming title sponsor of the league shortly afterwards. Both deals are due to expire this year with the company expected to maintain their relationship with the international side but end that with the domestic game.

The Football Association of Ireland (FAI) refused to confirm or deny the news but said in a statement: "We are currently in discussions with Eircom on all aspects of sponsorship. The talks are at an advanced stage and we won't be commenting any further until they have concluded”.
