Turner will manage advertising sales on these websites and the two companies will share the revenue.
The basketball, golf and NASCAR content includes live and on-demand video, and will be shared by Yahoo with Turner’s existing online properties NBA.com, PGAtour.com, PGA.com and NASCAR.com.
“Now we have the opportunity to take those brands and extend them even further into the marketplace,” Turner Sports president David Levy said, quoted by The Hollywood Reporter website.
Newspaper The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Levy as also saying he foresees Turner doing similar deals with online operators such as AOL, MySpace, or “(anywhere) this type of model may work”.
Yahoo Sports and Games GM Jimmy Pitaro said the Turner deal is a template for the future as the company would like to partner with other content providers, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
