BBC extends MotoGP rights deal

UK public-service broadcaster, the BBC, extended its deal with Dorna Sports SL, the commercial rights holder of MotoGP for five years until 2013.

Under the deal, BBC Sport has the exclusive rights to show all races – 125cc, 250cc and MotoGP, plus qualifying sessions. Of these, only MotoGP races will be shown live on the BBC's main free-to-air channels, the rest will be shown on their interactive service and online. Additional coverage of MotoGP races will also be available on the BBC iPlayer.

BBC Sport's director of sports rights, Dominic Coles, said: “We are delighted to have secured, for the first time, fully exclusive rights to the world's premier, and most watched motorbike competition.

"Alongside our recent acquisition of Formula One, BBC Sport has become the home of motorsport in the UK; a one-stop shop for fans of the very best two wheel and four wheel, adrenalin-fuelled sport action across TV, radio and online services”.

The next MotoGP event takes places at the Sachsenring circuit in Germany on July 13.
