BP signs up as London 2012 Tier One Partner

Global energy company, BP, has become the sixth Tier One Partner of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Under the deal, estimated to be worth in excess of £50 million, BP will become the Official Oil and Gas Partner and a Sustainability Partner. The company will provide the fuelling facilities for Games-related transport, Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) for catering, vehicle washing facilities as well as technical support services, including a system for tracking and reporting carbon emissions. In addition, BP will promote and support the Cultural Olympiad with exhibitions and outreach programmes around the UK.

BP Chief Executive, Tony Hayward, said: "We want to support this momentous event, which will also provide a unique opportunity to engage with our own large UK and global workforce, the millions of customers we serve each day, and our existing partners in the arts, education and cultural arena".

BP joins existing Tier One Partners Lloyds TSB, EDF Energy, Adidas, British Airways and BT. It is unprecedented to have even a single 'tier one' sponsor agreed before the previous games take place.
