The deal includes other ASO races in France and Belgium, such as the Paris-Nice, Paris-Roubaix and the Liege-Bastogne-Liege.
EBU director general, Jean Reveillon, said: “The Tour de France is a 'must' on the cycling calendar, and for all sports enthusiasts. We are happy that public broadcasters will deliver this race to viewers in the coming years. It is a unique and spectacular television event”.
A policy to impose contracts that would allow the EBU to cut airtime hours and deduct rights fees is scheduled to be approved later this week. The 2008 Tour de France, which is covered by an existing deal between the EBU and the ASO, begins Saturday.
