Universal sports available to 13m households

US broadcaster, Universal Sports (formerly World Championship Sports Network) claims to be available to more that 13 million households following a series of launches in the US.

The channel, which is the result of WCSN’s recent partnership with NBC Sports, is now available to cable subscribers in the New York Metro area on Time Warner Cable Channel 162, Comcast Channel 249, Cablevision Channel 110 (Conn Channel 119), RCN Channel 190 and Verizon Fios Channel 864 and on Time Warner Cable Channel 226 in Los Angeles.

Gary Zenkel, President, NBC Olympics, said: “These launches are the first steps in our aggressive plans to roll out Universal Sports ahead of the start of the Beijing Games. Now viewers in New York and Los Angeles can see expanded coverage of the Olympic Trials along with Universal Sports' usual array of World Cup competitions”.

Universal Sports will broadcast the 2008 US Olympic Trials in gymnastics, diving, softball, whitewater canoeing, men’s indoor volleyball, women’s indoor volleyball, men’s and women’s marathon, wrestling, judo, women’s weightlifting, rowing, men’s BMX, men’s and women’s water polo and boxing.
