French GP looks set to remain at Magny-Cours

Magny-Cours looks set to host the French Grand Prix again in 2009 and possibly for longer, Formula One boss, Bernie Ecclestone has said.

Speaking to Reuters, Ecclestone said: We've got a contract here for another couple of years. Although the Fédération Française du Sport Automobile (FFSA) who are the promoters agreed two years ago that 2008 would be the last race, now they are saying 2009 will be the last race, but I'm sure its not.”

Asked whether he expected the race to be back at Magny-Cours in 2009, he replied: "I'm sure. Book here."

The F1 boss has not ruled out an eventual move, however, with Disneyland Paris thought to be a favoured option.

The FFSA’s contract runs until 2011. The federation is due to meet next week to decide what to do next year, depending on continued local government funding and the financial outcome of the 2008 event.
