Under the deal with UEFA, European football’s governing body, ProSiebenSat.1 will show 17 top Champions League matches and 29 UEFA Cup matches in each season on its free-to-air channel, Sat.1.
In addition, ProSiebenSat.1 will offer both live and delayed coverage of matches via internet and mobile platforms. Select matches will also be available on the company’s video-on-demand portal, maxdome.
Premiere acquired the exclusive pay-television rights for 145 live UEFA games a season, including 20 matches of third round qualifications. The broadcaster’s current contract is for 125 games.
Premiere has said that it will win the rights for the Bundesliga, Germany’s top-tier domestic football league, and expects to close the deal by August.
