The agreement with Canadian cable-television sports broadcaster TSN is for broadcast and new media rights in Canada for six years, 2008-09 to 2013-14, and is reported to be worth more than $200 million. TSN will have exclusive English-language broadcast and internet rights in Canada.
It will show 70 regular-season matches per year, each of which will feature at least one Canadian team, as well as the first three rounds of the end-of-season Stanley Cup playoffs. The deal also includes extensive internet rights for live streaming and on-demand coverage of matches.
The NHL’s renewal of its deal with Anheuser-Busch, which will see Bud Light remain the league’s official beer until 2010-2011, is reported to be worth around $75 million. Bud Light has been the league’s official beer since 1998.
