Slovakian TV to launch new sports channel

Slovakian public broadcaster STV will launch a new sports-based channel, Trojka, on August 8

The service, which will be the broadcaster’s third channel, will be available between 17.00 and 23.00 on weekdays and between 11.00 and 23.00 on Saturdays and Sundays.

Trojka will offer coverage of the 2008 Beijing Olympics in HD, but will revert back to SD-only transmissions once the Games have finished.

The state-owned broadcaster was created in 1991 from the Slovak part of the former Czechoslovak Television and is funded through a combination of license fees, advertising and government funding.
