The final, which will take place on either 23 or 24 May 2009, returns to Edinburgh for the first time since Toulouse won there in 2005.
European Rugby Cup chief executive, Derek McGrath, said: “We are delighted to be bringing the Heineken Cup final back to Scotland.
“We know that from now until next April we will be selling an event for which we don't know who will be involved, but this year we had sold out all our tickets by February. So a lot of people are interested in coming to this event even if they don't know who will be involved, and that's what we are offering to the Scottish public.
“It is a very special event - it is rugby but not rugby like they have seen before”.
On Saturday, Wales' Millennium Stadium plays host to Munster and Toulouse who will compete in this year's final.
