London businesses and academics to partner to take on challenge of Olympics

London’s businesses will be partnered with the capital’s top academics to produce technological solutions to the problems posed by hosting the 2012 Olympics under a new scheme sponsored by the London Development Agency (LDA).

The London SciTech Challenge is seeking ideas for products or services falling into the categories of ‘athletic performance, sport and health’, ‘broadcasting and media’, ‘environmental legacy’, ‘research and monitoring devices’, and ‘food technology and distribution’. The businesses with the best ideas will be linked with partners in London’s academic institutions who will assist in the development of the solutions. The best will be selected for showcasing and promotion in exhibitions and events scheduled to be held across the city in Spring 2009.

London SciTech Challenges will also signpost relevant funding opportunities to help the participating businesses make their ideas commercially viable.

The scheme was created by digital communications consultancy White Loop and has received funding from the LDA.
