FIA to go for three-stage budget cap

Formula One’s governing body, the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile, is proposing a three-stage imposition of the annual teams' budget cap, beginning next year.

According to German magazine Auto Motor und Sport the proposed cap will increase in severity every year until 2011.

In 2009, the cap is expected to be around €150 million, reducing to €130 million and €110 million respectively over the next two years.

Driver and team boss salaries, as well as engine and marketing costs, are not thought to be included in the cap.
