Sport 18 to market Volvo Ocean Race India stopover

Sport 18 a division of Network 18 acquired the marketing rights of the Volvo Ocean Race India stopover to be held at Kochi from December 3-13, 2008.

Sport 18 was appointed by the Cochin Port Trust which is responsible for organising the Indian stopover, in collaboration with the Department of Tourism, Govt. of Kerala. Sport 18 also agreed a deal with Screenery Media Pvt Ltd to provide Outdoor marketing for the event.

Mr. N Ramachandran, Chairman – Cochin Port Trust said, “We are delighted to appoint the Consortium of Network 18 - CNBC TV 18 and Screenery Media as our marketing partners.”

Dr V Venu, Secretary, Kerala Tourism said that he expected the Kochi stopover to be a landmark event, taking Kerala into the international spotlight.“ Kerala has a wealth of water bodies, and we expect that the Race will give us an opportunity to showcase this to the world,” he said.

Satish Menon, CEO, SPORT 18 said, “The Volvo Ocean Race is one of the biggest and prestigious events in the calendar of sport. We are extremely proud that Kochi would be the first Indian stopover ever. Sport 18 and Network 18 are dedicated to the sport of sailing and our involvement with the Volvo Ocean Race stopover is a continuation of our commitment to sailing.

The 2008-09 event will be the 10th running of the Volvo Ocean Race. Starting from Alicante in Spain on October 4, 2008, it will for the first time, take in ports in Asia.
