PCB looks to shorten TV rights deals

According to ‘The News’, the PCB may chose to sell its rights for a two to three year period, rather than for the traditional five years, in a bid to maximise profits.

Shafqat Naghmi, PCB’s Chief Operating Officer, said: "Rather than putting up television rights for sale for a five-year period this year, I believe it would be more profitable for the PCB if we sell the rights till the period when the new Future Tour Programme is announced. We are pushing for a better tour programme from 2012-2017 than it is now and that would help make the sale of our television rights more lucrative than now”.

The issue of television rights is set to be discussed at this week's PCB’s Governing Board meeting, where it is likely that the PCB will ask for expressions of interest from media groups in the first week of September – before the start of the ICC Champions Trophy - and then strike a deal after the conclusion of the tournament.
