Spain’s leading sports associations back Madrid 2016 Olympic Bid

Associations for six of the most popular sports in Spain joined together to pledge their support for the Madrid 2016 Olympic bid. A manifesto outlining their commitment was signed by representatives from the Spanish football, basketball, handball, futsal, athletics and cycling associations.

The manifesto was presented during the event to mark the start of the Solidarity Cup, BS Sport & Entertainment Golf Trophy in Madrid. In the manifesto, Fran Llorente, president of the Basketball Association said, “We are here to demonstrate our commitment towards sporting values. We believe sport can unite people, allowing them to share respect for each other and can also improve their lives. These values guide the Madrid 2016 team, and we are dedicated to supporting this bid.”

Pepu Hernández, world champion and head coach of Spain’s national basketball team and Emilio Butragueño, ex-international Spanish footballer and former Vice President of Real Madrid Football Club also declared their support of the Madrid 2016 Olympic bid as part of this announcement.
