The championship is scheduled to air 4-10 pm Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) on June 14 from Torrey Pines in La Jolla, California.
According to NBC Sports president Ken Schanzer the network previously experienced ratings hikes when major golf competitions spilled into primetime (7pm-10pm) because of bad weather, slow play or tied matches.
"We have a lot of confidence that the US Open is a special event that is going to garner an audience in primetime," Schanzer said.
Advertising spots for the event are about 80 per cent sold, according to a report by Reuters, and the rest will be sold at a traditionally higher price closer to the date, the report said.
