England likely to play winner-takes-all $20m Twenty20 match

It is ‘very likely’ that the England cricket team will take part in a winner-takes-all $20 million Twenty20 match against a West Indies All-Star XI, according to Giles Clarke, chairman of the England and Wales Cricket Board.

Clarke confirmed to the BBC that he had discussed the plan with Texan financial services billionaire Sir Allen Stanford, who is proposing to bankroll the match, at a meeting at Lords on Tuesday.

Stanford is also interested in developing an English version of the Indian Premier League Twenty20 tournament. The ECB are keen to appease England stars who were prevented from taking part in the lucrative IPL due to the international schedule which they are contracted to fulfil.
