Sochi 2014 replaces construction chief

Sochi Mayor Viktor Kolodyazhny will now head up the state agency responsible for Olympic construction, Olympstroy, after replacing Semen Vainshtok.

Sochi 2014 said that the move would not delay construction for the Games and CEO Dmitry Chernyshenko said in a statement that "Sochi 2014 is on schedule and budget and the first phase of construction is already at an advanced stage in the mountains, with 27 additional construction projects due to commence this year."

He added that Vainshtok had “successfully fulfilled all of his objectives and created a strong leadership team who will deliver the infrastructure needed to host an outstanding Winter Games."

The Organising Committee of the 2014 Winter Games also established a Public Ecological Council and held the first formal Council meeting. The Council comprises the Sochi 2014 Organising Committee and a series of senior environmental experts together with bodies from respected NGOs such as Greenpeace Russia and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) through to environmental agencies and academic experts.

Sochi hosts IOC inspectors next week for a series of meetings with officials as part of the three-day inspection visit from April 22 to 24.
