Lorgat looks set for ICC role

South Africa’s Haroon Lorgat has emerged as the favourite to succeed current International Cricket Council chief executive, Malcolm Speed.

The former convener of Cricket South Africa’s selection committee, said: "I can confirm I have spoken to (ICC president-elect) David Morgan. We talked about the job. I'm reasonably confident and will take up the position if it's offered to me."

Lorgat was shortlisted by the ICC, when the council named South African Imtiaz Patel as its preferred candidate last week, only for Patel to then declare he was not interested in the post.

The position will become vacant when Speed steps down in July after seven years in office.
