Leaders of the Gaelic Athletic Association, Irish Football Association and Ulster Rugby have rejected an invitation to meet a Northern Irish government committee over the proposed Maze sports stadium.

The three associations have all confirmed they would support the venue if the green light was given for the project, but are frustrated by delays in the decision-making process.

"What we don't want is continuing maybes because that doesn't help any of us," said Howard Wells of the Irish Football Association. "I think what we need is a situation where we actually know what is going to happen and what sort of time frame we're talking about, but we've been saying that repeatedly for months."

Debate on a new national stadium to be built at the on the site of the former Maze Prison has divided opinion despite a leaked consultants report by PricewaterhouseCoopers suggesting that the Maze is the ‘best option’.
