BBC expected to bid for test cricket rights

The BBC is planning to bid for at least some rights for live English test match cricket when the auction opens for the next four-year contract, likely to be next month.

Fans of the sport and UK politicians heavily criticised the England and Wales Cricket Board when last sold its rights, to pay-broadcaster BSkyB in a deal that runs until the 2010 season.

The deal resulted in the loss of all live cricket coverage from UK free-to-air TV.
