The president was in Vancouver at the same time as the Coordination Commission, which was in the host city to monitor preparations and guide VANOC on staging the Games.
“The work that is being done here by the VANOC team and its partners is of a very high standard and I would like to thank everyone involved in Games preparations for their professionalism and dedication”, said the IOC president.
“Sporting venues will be one of the many legacies that the Games will leave behind and we know that VANOC is doing its best to deliver a strong heritage to local communities."
The IOC president viewed the Richmond speed skating oval and the UBC Winter Sports Centre during his visit, as well as the Commission’s members.
Rogge further praised organisers for measures ensuring the Games’ own environmental sustainability and ‘a culture of transparency and openness’ that has encouraged 30,000 people in just two weeks to volunteer for the 2010 Games.
