Indianapolis formally announced the city would bid for the NFL’s 46th Super Bowl in 2012.
The city missed out on the 2011 Super Bowl last year when the NFL owners gave the game to Dallas, in part because that city's $1 billion stadium will be the biggest in the NFL when it opens next year.
Potential competitors this year include Houston and Glendale, Ariz. The city's preliminary bid for 2012 game is due April 1. NFL owners will make a decision at meeting in Atlanta in May.
