Dogan TV buys Champions League rights in Turkey

UEFA has awarded the UEFA Champions League media rights for 2009/12 in Turkey to Dogan TV Holdings.

The announcement marks the end of a competitive sales process in which UEFA received offers from several of the major media groups and broadcasters in Turkey. The outcome of the sales process was that Dogan emerged as the clear winner.

Dogan will exploit the media rights on its Star TV channel, which has partnered the UEFA Champions League in Turkey for many years.

Star TV will show free-to-air coverage of the first choice matches on both Tuesday and Wednesday in each match week including all matches involving Turkish clubs. The remaining live matches will be scheduled on DSport branded channels (part of DSmart’s digital platform). Furthermore, the platform-neutral approach taken by UEFA means that Dogan has been granted Internet and mobile exploitation for all matches.

The UEFA Champions league media rights for 2009/12 will also include the UEFA Super Cup 2009, 2010 and 2011.

In January, UEFA also commenced the global sales for the UEFA Cup media rights 2009/12 - starting the process in Turkey. This is the first time that the UEFA Cup media rights have been marketed on an entirely centralised basis.

In recognition of both the UEFA Cup centralised rights sale and the new format of the competition that will take effect from season 2009/2010, UEFA said: "This sales process has also proved to be extremely competitive with strong demand from the market."
