Hurling Championships in sponsorship battle

United Arab Emirates national airline, Etihad Airways, is believed to be one of six companies interested in sponsoring the All-Ireland hurling championships.

If the airline secures the deal, it will represent a departure from the Gaelic Athletic Association's tradition of using sponsors with a strong Irish identity.

Other interested parties are believed to include Vodafone, Coca-Cola, Ulster Bank and Toyota.

The GAA said it hoped to confirm the new partners within the next two weeks.
