Nascar CEO calls for 'back to basics' strategy

Nascar CEO Brian France has called for the motorsport to ‘re-energise the bonds with our core fans’ after years of expansion into new US markets.

With the 2008 Nascar season scheduled to launch with the season-opening Daytona 500 on February 17, France has set has out his game plan for 2008 and signalled his intention to highlight the traditions of the sport.

“Change is good to a point,” he told US news sources, “and we think we’ve had all the change this sport can handle for a while.”

Among the directional catchphrases France outlined to clarify this season’s Nascar strategy were: ‘Back to basics’; ‘Minimize change’; and “Emphasise history, emphasise tradition.”

The strategy is a response to complaints that Nascar’s expansion has taken the sport too far from its traditional heartlands.
