Bulgarian businessman to set up sports channel

Bulgarian businessman, Grisha Ganchev, has acquired a 50 per cent stake in the Plovdiv-based cable television channel Evrokom and aims to transform it into a sports-based channel.

Evrokom's owner Georgi Barbudev confirmed the move, but denied that he had sold a controlling stake.

Ganchev is reportedly already in talks for broadcasting rights for the Spanish, Brazilian, Argentine and Dutch championships, and could also bid to become the second Bulgarian channel to screen UEFA Champions League games.

Ganchev has business interests in the energy, food and chemicals sectors and is the owner of Bulgarian top flight club Litex Lovech.
