New ruling in Mediapro- Sogecable TV rights battle

The Spanish Mediapro agency said the latest Madrid court ruling prevents Sogecable and its Audiovisual Sport unit from selling football rights onto third parties.

The ruling is the latest in the dispute between the two over the TV rights for Spanish football’s Primera Liga.

In a statement, Mediapro said the Madrid court has ruled that Sogecable/AVS cannot stop Mediapro from exploiting broadcasting rights in accordance with a contract signed between the two groups in 2006.

According to Mediapro, the 2006 contract prevents Sogecable from selling on rights to free-to-air broadcaster Gestevision Telecinco SA, as it did this weekend when the station showed a Primera Liga match between Barcelona and Valencia.
