Glasgow 2014 highlights sponsorship affordability

The 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow could attract sponsorship from companies priced out of London 2012, organisers have told Members of the Scottish Parliament.

With top tier sponsorship of the 2012 Olympics costing an estimated £80 million, organisers hope that UK companies will turn to the smaller scale Games in Glasgow two years later.

Derek Casey, interim chief executive of the Games Organising Committee, said that a number of companies 'have already approached us' about sponsoring the Games.

Organisers told MSPs that they were confident they could meet the target sponsorship of £24 million. Casey also said that the Games budget, set at £373million, with expected revenue of £75m, is ‘realistic and robust’.
