Canal Plus seeks suspension of French football TV tender

According to French media reports, pay-broadcaster Canal Plus has asked France’s state council to suspend the French Football League’s TV rights tender, launched on November 30.

The tender offers the rights for France’s Ligue 1 from 2008-2012, in 12 packages. The pay-broadcaster has also requested a suspension from the le tribunal de grande instance.

The Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) said in a statement: “We have learnt that Canal Plus has placed two requests with the Conseil d’Etat and the TGI to suspend the tender launched November 30. We believe Canal Plus is trying to obstruct competition. We will not be intimidated.”
