Australian broadcaster Channel Seven launched a high-definition (HD) channel will broadcast live sport and US programming.
7HD will show exclusive content for about eight hours a day and otherwise revert to Seven's main broadcast.
Seven is not expected to buy new sports rights to show on its HD channel, but will feature extended broadcasts of the V8 Supercars and the Australian Open tennis for which it already holds the rights.
