Orange “could change its strategy” for Ligue 1 TV rights

French mobile operator Orange said it could now change its bidding strategy for French football’s Ligue 1 rights and may be interested in rights beyond the mobile and internet packages.

Orange president Didier Lombard said that with the French league having carved the rights into 12 smaller packages, his company could now change tack. “With the new distribution of rights and packages we need to think about our strategy. It will need further thought.”

“I have a certain admiration for the way in which the tender has been put together. It is very interesting,” he said, whilst also stressing that his company would bid huge money. “I will not pay out billions. I will be modest.”
