The final will take place, as in 2006 and 2007, in Stuttgart’s Gottlieb Daimler Stadium, which has also hosted editions of the IAAF World Championships in Athletics (1993) and European Championships (1986).
A total of 36 events will again be contested at the Final: 18 Men’s events and 18 Women’s events. The Final is the culmination of the competition year on the IAAF World Athletics Tour.
The IAAF also confirmed that the name of the IAAF World Road Running Championships has reverted back to its original title of the IAAF World Half Marathon Championships, effective from this year’s edition in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Sunday October 12, 2008.
