Soccerex’s lasting South African legacy

Soccerex, currently underway in Gauteng, South Africa, is set to leave a lasting legacy in the province according to Gauteng Premier Mbhazima Shilowa.

"It is a legacy that we will build on as we continue to develop our province as home for competitive sport," said Premier Shilowa.

Addressing the opening ceremony of Soccerex 2007, Premier Shilowa said Soccerex was a unique platform for the business and commercial side of football to work together. He views Soccerex, being held ahead of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, as a great success for the province's economy, for the development of sport and for the people of South Africa.

"Sport sponsorship in our country is now worth R2.6 billion annually up from R1 billion a year in 2000," he said, adding that an addition R2.2 billion was spent on facilitate those sponsorships.
