In the 2008 Budget Statement and Economic Policy, Kwadwo Baah-Wiredu, minister of Finance and Economic Planning added that the government's current focus on the sports sub-sector was the hosting of the African Cup of Nations tournament from January 20 to February 10 and that financial and logistical support would be provided to the Local Organising Committee.
The Minister disclosed that government had spent an amount of $200 million on the development of infrastructures for the Ghana 2008 tournament.
