Attended by 70 leaders of youth from 7 countries – including 25 women and 4 religions – the inaugural Peace Though Sport pilot camp has planted the initial seeds for what is now set to grow into a global phenomenon following an overwhelming response to the pilot camp.
“The pilot camp has been an incredible success,” declared HRH Prince Feisal, Chairman of Peace Through Sport. “We can now analyse the past 10 days to finalise a Peace Through Sport camp formula that can be rolled out across the globe in the coming years.
“There have been so many highlights. But what has particularly pleased me is the way everyone from a variety of backgrounds has come together in the name of sport. There has been a lot of hard work from every single delegate that has joined us in Amman over the past 10 days and I would like to thank them all for their dedication and I wish them well in carrying through the Peace Through Sport message within their own communities.”
From learning softball in the spectacular desert of Wadi Rum to playing a friendly football match in the 25,000-seater Amman International Stadium, Peace Through Sport has combined practical sporting sessions with peace education and specialist training in conflict resolution amongst young people.
Each and every aspect of the past 10 days will be analysed along with the feedback from the leaders of youth. However, HRH Prince Feisal is already encouraging more sports leaders and nations to follow this pioneering Peace Through Sport camp’s lead.
Future ambitious plans for the initiative include a specialist Peace Through Sport Institute currently under construction in Amman.
