Find an anchor tenant, Rogge tells LOCOG

IOC president Jacques Rogge wants the organisers of London 2012 to find an anchor tenant for London’s Olympic stadium.

Rogge told BBC Sport that the IOC was ‘basically happy’ with the progress of LOCOG’s preparations but urged the organisers to find a permanent tenant for the main stadium.

"That would be something that would please the IOC very much and we are very keen on that," he was quoted as saying. "We know that Seb Coe and LOCOG are working very hard to find a solution."

The most likely candidates to take on the stadium – local football clubs West Ham United and Leyton Orient - have both dismissed the idea.

While the stadium's capacity will be reduced from 80,000 to 25,000 in 2013 for use as a multi-sport venue with athletics and community facilities at its heart, the plan depends on a sporting club subsidising the stadium.
