Mallya said he had the FIA, motorsport’s governing body, for approval. He said: "Having an Indian-owned Formula One team on the grid was something that was considered completely out of reach before...this reflects the new India and new ecomomic prosperity."
If approved, the name change will be the second in consecutive years. The team was renamed Spyker last year when the Midland team was taken over by the Dutch luxury sportscar maker.
