In total 113,817 people participated in the decision process. 76,045 voted on the internet through the Madrid City Council's website and 37,772 via different points that were set up in different locations of the city.
The winning design received 32 per cent of the votes and will immediately be submitted for approval to the International Olympic Committee and the Spanish Olympic Committee.
The design called ‘Corle", represents the unity of the different cultures that live together in Madrid through a hand, formed by a continuous line that changes its colour and forms an ‘M’ in the palm of the hand.
Since the public contest was announced, the Madrid 2016 Olympic bid received 2,691 designs. The Madrid 16 Foundation, with the help of experts in communication and design, chose 10 logos, which were presented on August 30 when the popular vote began.
