FIH confirm Champions Trophy to move out of Lahore

Organisers of hockey’s Champions Trophy have confirmed the event will be switched from Pakistan due to security concerns.

The event was due to be held in Lahore in December.
Said International Hockey Federation (FIH) president Els van Breda Vriesman: “During the last few months we tried everything we could to keep the Champions Trophy in Pakistan.

“This was unfortunately impossible due to circumstances not related to hockey or sport and completely beyond the control of the FIH and the Pakistan Hockey Federation.

“It was an extremely hard decision and one we took with many regrets for the Pakistan hockey community."

Among the venues being considered as an alternative are India and Malaysia.

The move to switch the event follows a number of violent clashes in Pakistan following the collapse of a peace deal between the Pakistani government and Islamic militants.
