AT&T and NASCAR reach compromise

US motor racing series NASCAR reached a compromise agreement with AT&T which puts an end to months of legal wrangling over AT&T's sponsorship.

AT&T had taken legal action against NASCAR after it refused to allow AT&T to replace Cingular as the primary sponsor of its car, when the two telecoms companies merged. NASCAR prevented the name change because it has an exclusive deal with series title sponsor Sprint Nextel, also a telecoms company.

The new deal puts a firm end date on AT&T's sponsorship with AT&T leaving the Nextel Cup Series when its contract ends then at the end of 2008.
