SEA Games TV rights to be free to all

The organising committee of the 24th Southeast Asian Games agreed to make the TV rights for the event available on a free-to-air basis to broadcasters in the region.

The committee had wanted to sell the rights for the event, to be held in Thailand, but faced opposition from some of the region’s National Olympic Committees

At a meeting to resolve the matter, ten of eleven national Olympic Committees signed a document asking the organising board of the 24th SEA Games to follow the rules of the Southeast Asian Sports Federation, under which the TV rights for the 24th SEA Games are provided free of charge for all member countries.

The board agreed and the Southeast Asian Sport Federation did also discuss the potential for commercialising the rights for future editions of the event.
