Glasgow received a very positive report, with the commission noting amongst other advantages, that the city has: World class venues for competition, with development of new venues leaving a positive legacy for City and Country; An excellent games village which fits in with the wider regeneration strategies; Strong existing transport infrastructure, which provides the basis for the efficient and effective delivery of a Games; An Organising Committee budget that is of high quality and a well developed and thorough environment programme, resulting in a Games with an overall low environmental impact.
"Glasgow has demonstrated the ability to stage the 2014 Commonwealth Games to a standard which would continue to enhance the image and prestige of the Games ... with a minimal risk of failure" the report concluded.
The only concerns raised in the report included lack of detail relating to the athletes’ accommodation.
The bid from Abuja, Nigeria met with more concerns, including in areas such as transport, accommodation and financial matters.
The Evaluation Commission’s report said that “there are a number of areas which require further attention and development.” It said that “Any decision to award the Games to Abuja should be conditional of these matters being addressed.”
Members of the Commonwealth Games Commission will vote for the winner on November 9 in Sri Lanka.
