Champ Car World Series chiefs have been forced to pull the plug on an upcoming race in Phoenix due to a lack of sponsors.
The December 2 race was due to be the first to be staged on a new downtown street circuit.
Now though the chequered flag has been waved long before the Champ Car circus reached the venue.
Promoter Dale Jensen said: “An event of this magnitude requires considerable corporate support and, though we did establish some outstanding partnerships, there were simply not enough of these to create economic viability.”
All fans with tickets will be entitled to full refunds.
