The Walt Disney-owned network swooped prior to the Rugby World Cup which gets underway in France next month.
Other recent deals have seen ESPN take control of cricket site Cricinfo.com while expanded the non-English language version of its ESPNsoccernet.com destination.
Graham Jenkins, senior editor of Scrum.com said: “With the support of ESPN, who have demonstrated a long-term commitment to sport on the internet, we will attempt to break new ground in our rugby coverage.
“Under the new ownership Scrum.com expects to go from strength to strength and the 2007 Rugby World Cup is a great platform from which to showcase our content to a global audience.”
