Russia has confirmed it will make an official bid to host the inaugural Youth Summer Olympics in 2010.

A vote during a meeting of the Russian Olympic Committee on Monday unanimously backed plans to bid for the event.

The IOC confirmed last month it would back a Youth Olympics. Designed to attract more youngsters to the Olympic Movement, it will see youths between 14-18 compete.

Moscow mayor Yuri Luzhkov said: “Moscow is the undisputed leader of the Russian sports movement. We have almost everything ready to stage the Youth Games.”
