Diageo Great Britain, owners of the Guinness brand, is to invest more than £6milllion in rugby union related advertising and promotional campaigns this autumn.

According to talkingretail.com, the campaign includes new rugby themed advertising and Guinness-branded point-of-sale kits. The ads, entitled ‘Seconds from Greatness’, will break in August and run through to October across TV, press and digital media.

“Around 45 per cent of our target consumers are now aware of the strong link between Guinness and rugby,” said Steve Hamilton, Guinness Senior Brand Manager, Diageo GB. “With the World Cup and Guinness Premiership kicking off in September, the sport’s popularity will be at one of its highest levels.”

Guinness will continue to highlight its association with rugby this autumn through the third year of its sponsorship of the Guinness Premiership, English rugby’s top flight league.
