ESPN ACQUIRES EXPANDED SERIE A RIGHTS IN LATIN AMERICA

ESPN signed a deal with the Media Partners & Silva agency for the rights to Italy’s Serie A in Latin America and the Caribbean, for the three years from 2007-08 to 2009-10. The deal provides exclusive rights in Argentina, Brazil and Mexico.

“We are thrilled we will continue to have Serie A in our programming lineup,” said Tim Bunnell, senior vice president, programming and marketing, ESPN International. “Serie A is home to some of the world’s top players and most storied clubs, and fans throughout Latin America and the Caribbean will now be able to see expanded coverage on ESPN, along with the other top European football properties we air, making our networks the place to see the best in European football.”

Riccardo Silva, managing director, Media Partners & Silva said: "We are delighted to expand our partnership with ESPN, a broadcast partner which ensures top class coverage for Italian Serie A in Latin America”.

ESPN’s coverage will include numerous matches per round on a live basis on its group of networks in Latin America, including the ESPN pan regional feeds and regional networks ESPN 2 (Northern Cone), ESPN Brasil, and ESPN+ (Southern Cone). ESPN’s television rights to Serie A are inclusive of all games and all teams each season. Other media rights include live streaming of select matches on ESPN-branded broadband platforms throughout Latin America, including some matches on ESPN360 Mexico.

The addition of Serie A to the football properties ESPN airs in the region brings the presence of numerous top native players like Kaká and Ronaldo to fans in Brazil, while in Mexico ESPN’s agreement means Mexican fans hungry for the best in European football will now have access to a top football property currently available on only a limited basis there. Serie A joins ESPN’s lineup of top European football properties, including UEFA Champions League and UEFA Cup, Spain‘s La Liga and next Summer’s Euro 2008 tournament, allowing Latin America fans to see some of the world’s best football matches, teams and players in one place.
