Skandia’s reported £1.5 million deal with Cowes Combined Clubs (CCC) runs out in 2009 and CCC says there are now five companies in the frame to replace Skandia.
Quoted in the Times Online, Stuart Quarrie, the CCC chief executive, said: “Any sponsorship has to plateau ultimately for the sponsor, and we’ve had a thorough review of the value of Cowes in the sponsorship market [by Revolution Sports Marketing].
"There are 8,500 competitors, 100,000 visitors and the website had 2 million impressions in a week last year. Then there is leveraging of corporate entertainment. The value is well into seven figures."
Quarrie added that he was very confident that we’ll have a sponsor. “We sent letters to 15 targeted companies and there are now five in the frame, all of whom have been to this year’s event,” he said.
Skandia is a long-term savings company based in Southampton. It is sponsoring the Royal Yacht Association’s Olympic campaign until 2008, with an option to 2012.
